West D1 Championships Day 2 Writeup from Ted Hill

Results from Day 1 can be found here.

Video from Day 1 and Day 2 will be posted later this afternoon on my Vimeo Channel!

Photos from Shalay Mefford can be viewed here.

Game 1 Black Ice beat St. Louis 17 to 10. Hard fought match that could have sung either way in the last 10 minutes.
Game 2 Glendale beat Austin 38 to 10. These women move the ball around better than some men’s teams. Seriously, it was a VERY entertaining match. In the end, Glendale was too strong.
Kudos to all the women who made the trip. Mother Nature gave us sunny skies all weekend. The heat did get to quiet a few ladies on Sunday but nothing major to report. They played every game with a lot of heart.

West Competitions Manager

  1. Couldn't we have just moved the ball around well? Can't women's rugby be enjoyable due to its intrinsic worth and NOT because it's comparable to men's rugby? Is men's rugby the measure by which to judge women's rugby? I don't think so. I play women's rugby not men's rugby, so I'd rather be measured against a logical scale…other women's teams.

  2. Hannah,

No problem and thanks for the feedback! I too cringed at that comment, but lets face it…we will always be compared to men's rugby! However I do think it is a great writeup and I think Ted only meant the highest of compliments when he wrote that. He just doesn't understand that we want to stop being compared to men…we want to stand on our own merit!

Thanks again for the feedback and we will see you next week!

You saw the videos on the YSC Vimeo channel right?
