On the first October Saturday of 2009, the San Diego Surfers visited a whopping 74-0 onto their hosts, the San Francisco Lady Fog.

Open side flanker Leanna Corpus opened the ledger with a quick dash down the hard side of an early ruck. The Surfers followed with a rolling maul off of a lineout, then created 8 phases using the width of the pitch to score in the corner.

Hat-trick honors went to #11 Casey Fields with 4 and #10 Marea Blue with 3. Outside centre Daralisa Cheung was 7 of 12 from the field.

Though the Fog had periods of sustained pressure, small mistakes led to turnovers. Two passes wide, and the Surfer’s Fields was seen dashing down the touchline.

Coach Kelly of the Fog kept positive, stating that with one more match to go, the Fog still had a chance at playoffs with a bonus point win.

Coaches Richie Walker and Tim O’Hara of SD were happy with their team’s communication, solid rucking, and game awareness.

“When they opted for a scrum, knowing that the lineout wasn’t working…that proved that their hard work was paying off,” Coach O’Hara boasted.

The Surfers’ final match is at home against the Mudhens of Seattle, while the Lady Fog travel to Tempe.
