from Strait Times:
SINGAPORE’S hopes of sealing a berth at next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup were ended by Japan at the Republic Polytechnic on Wednesday.
Hosts Singapore lost 11-35 in the qualifying tournament for Asia, which featured two other teams – Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
Japan will next play the winners of the match between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
They will be vying to join defending champions New Zealand, hosts and 2006 runners up England, bronze medallists France, Canada, USA, South Africa, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden and Australia at Women’s Rugby World Cup from Aug 20 to Sept 5 next year.
Singapore will play for third-place at the Padang at 5.30pm on Friday. The battle for the ticket to England will take place after that match, at 7.30pm.
