Golden Oldies Womens Rugby Division in Sydney 2010

from my inbox:

Hi, Wendy,

Carrie forwarded your email to me. It would be great if you could gather a few women together and join us in Sydney! I am operating from Sydney and trying to gather enough interest for the Festival to open a women’s division. They are very supportive. We just need to have strong enough expressions of interest with some numbers behind them to give the go-ahead.

Here is some information about the festival in general.

And here is a list of GO rules. Basically they’re accommodating to people of our ‘experience’. You can’t push in a scrum and there’s no ‘over-vigorous’ play. Players who wear particular coloured shorts are exempt from being tackled.

I am also including an ‘official’ blurb that you can send along to anyone who may be interested. Please feel free to do so or to put anyone in touch with me directly.

Yours in rugby,
Annie

Women Rugby Oldies – Dust off your Boots!

Women’s rugby teams from around the world can now join in this first-ever women’s division at the 18th Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival being held in Sydney from the 26 September – 3 October 2010.

Boots gathering dust in the bottom of the closet? Mouthguard growing mould? Dreaming about the good old days with the rugby girls? Come join the fun in the game you love. Women have been playing rugby for many, many years but until now there were no formal team entries in the Golden Oldies World Rugby Festivals. That is about to change!.

Women over 30 are welcome. The games will be played strictly by Golden Oldies Laws with a focus of participation rather than winning. Women’s teams can enter the Festival on the same basis as all other teams with a complete package of three rugby games, accommodation, ground transport and entertaining social events.  The Festival Team registration form is attached, together with the game plan and cost guide.

For more information about the women’s division or to join a women’s team contact Annie Edwards on Gaztek@bigpond.net.au, or Joan Forno on rugby.goldenoldies@ozdocs.net.au.

See you downunder in 2010!
