from The Weekend Post:
The Springbok women’s team put their skills to the test ahead of the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup to be held in England in August with another training camp in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.
The national women’s rugby team recently recorded a historic 2-0 series win over Kazakhstan in Dubai.
The team’s next international assignment is a two-Test away series against Scotland on June 5 and 12.
The squad of 28 gathered for an intense training camp at the Eastern Province Rugby Union Stadium.
Bok women’s team coach Denver Wannies said the team was ready to tackle the Test matches and was most definitely ready for the World Cup.
Most of the team’s training camps were held in Port Elizabeth, he said, as “five of our players are from the Eastern Cape and it is easy for me to work here as I am from Uitenhage”.
Team captain Mandisa Williams said that while rugby was a tough sport the team would strive to do its best in the World Cup and would practise intensely ahead of it.
While the team knew that the World Cup would be challenging, vice-captain Lorinda Brown said they intended to give it their all.
She said: “I am honoured to be representing my country and I am definitely looking forward to playing in the World Cup.
“I know it’s going to be hard, but I am willing to give it my best.”
