WANTED: Berkeley All Blues Head Coach

The Berkeley All Blues Women’s Rugby Club is currently accepting applications for a Head Coach, beginning Spring 2011. The club is seeking talented and enthusiastic candidates who are committed to maintaining the club’s history of excellence and building a championship-level team.

Founded in 1978, the Berkeley All Blues are one of the country’s top women’s rugby teams. The club has won 12 National Championships and is currently ranked third in the United States following the conclusion of the Fall 2010 Women’s Premier League season.

The All Blues consist of approximately 30 women, dedicated to the club and the sport of rugby. Players range in experience from elite to novice and the club welcomes athletes of all levels. Players regularly compete on the Women’s National Team and territorial select sides in both fifteens and sevens.

• Developing overall team and subunit strategies
• Preparing and conducting practices
• Attending all matches, home and away
• Making match selections
• Providing effective feedback to individuals and the team
• Managing coaching staff, including coordinating the efforts of Assistant and/or Positional Coaches

Practices are held twice weekly, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, in Berkeley, CA, during the spring and fall. We aim to field both A-Side and B-Side squads for all matches, as numbers allow. In the fall, the team competes in the Women’s Premier League, composed of the top eight teams in the country, thus requiring extensive travel. The spring season generally consists of matches and tournaments held regionally.

Previous playing and/or coaching experience is required; specific experience coaching women is preferred but not necessary. Stipend is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Travel expenses will be paid by the club.
