England’s Women Rugby World Cup captain Catherine Spencer will be supporting the next generation of rugby stars at the 2011 Gloucestershire 10s Rugby Tournament in April. Spencer captained England side to three consecutive Six Nations and a memorable World Cup final in September, narrowly losing to New Zealand, before handing back the armband shortly before the start of this year’s 6 Nations tournament.
The Gloucestershire 10s is a two day girls’ rugby tournament being held over Easter weekend. Following two highly successful years the 2011 event will once again be held at Hartpury college, with an U15 event being held on SATURDAY 23rd April and an U18 being held on SUNDAY 24th April. The tournament has already attracted a number of entries from across the country and is on track to be the largest and most successful Girls’ 10s festival in South West England.
Catherine has confirmed that she will attend both afternoons of the 2011 Gloucestershire 10s and will be available to meet players and supporters before assisting with the presentations at the end of the day. Commenting on the 2011 Gloucestershire 10s Catherine said,” I am very much looking forward to attending the Gloucestershire 10’s on Easter Weekend. It is great to see the increasing opportunities available for girls to take part in rugby, I am only sorry that I am a little too old to take part in this tournament myself! 10’s is a really fun form of the game and I am sure that all involved will really enjoy the weekend.”
There are a limited number of places still available at this year’s tournament. The tournament entry deadline has been extended to Monday 28th February.
