Women’s Eagles Nearly Nab Plate in Hong Kong 7s Rugby Tournament

from USA Rugby:

The Women’s Eagles took care of Russia 31-5, Japan 28-7, and Chinese Taipei 63-0 to position themselves to enter either the Plate or the Cup rounds. They fell to rivals Canada in their final pool play match 7-26. The Netherlands stood in the way of the Eagles in their path to claim the plate.

It was a tough fought Plate final for the Women’s Eagles, but in the end, the Eagles couldn’t pull out a win and ended up narrowly losing to the Dutch 12-17.

While losing the Plate is tough, especially after stuch a strong start to the tournament, the Eagles can take consolation in the fact tha they proved they can play with the best teams in the world. In Las Vegas, the Eagles beat Canada, who won the Cup in both Vegas and Hong Kong. They also proved that they can score a lot of points with their very potent offense.

Head Coach Ric Suggitt has a lot of positives to take away from the weekend and plenty to think about before the next Women’s Sevens events.
