The Guinness Book of World Records Sanctions Williams Women’s Rugby’s Attempt at a World Record

UPDATE 5/10: Here are details on the record!

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — 80 minutes of rugby is hard enough. However, this spring the Williams College and the Keene State College women’s rugby teams will truly be pushing their mental and physical limits when they attempt to play rugby for a world record 24 consecutive hours, which will make the contest the longest-running women’s rugby match ever. Guinness World Records has given the Williams women’s rugby team the official green light to attempt the record, while raising funds for two deserving causes.

The Ephs and Owls will be raising money for breast and colorectal cancer research by their continuous play with a 22-player roster and 5-minute breaks after every 60-minutes of play.

The match will begin on April 23rd at 8:00 AM on Cole Field at Williams College and hopefully end no earlier than 8:00 AM on April 24th. Ruggers Rugby Supply will be providing the special event uniforms, the Village Ambulance Service will be on hand to donate 24hours of EMT support, and Williams College will provide facility, security and catering assistance for the event.

To find out how you can support this event and its worthy causes please contact Leah Lansdowne at (541)610-8545 or info@scrumforacure.org.
