Atlanta Renegades And Atlanta Silverbacks Break Ground On New Rugby Field


Atlanta, GA; April 13, 2011 – – The Atlanta Renegades, R.F.C. and Atlanta Silverbacks Park are proud to announce that work on a brand new FieldTurf® artificial surface rugby field at Silverbacks Park has been progressing quickly, after initial ground-breaking on March 11, 2011.  The new rugby field will be the home field for the Atlanta Renegades, the only rugby team in Atlanta competing in USA Rugby Division 1 (“D-1″), for both practices and home matches, as well as other special events.

Bob Taylor, President of the Atlanta Renegades, commented that “the Atlanta Renegades have been very pleased with our partnership with the Silverbacks, and particularly to now have a field dedicated to our use for at least the next decade, not only for games but also weekly trainings and for hosting other rugby special events, is a major assets for the club.”  The Atlanta Renegades anticipate that construction of the new rugby field will take approximately five weeks to complete, and anticipate cutting the ribbon on use of the facility for its USA Rugby Division 1 playoff match against Metropolis RFC on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

The Atlanta Silverbacks have also embraced the new rugby field; Chairman Boris Jerkunica stated that “Atlanta Silverbacks Park is proud to welcome Atlanta Renegades RFC as its newest partner and tenant.  We look forward to a long and mutually prosperous relationship.”

Both parties are pleased that the new rugby field will feature a FieldTurf® artificial surface, which assures a playable field in all conditions, even after adverse weather.  FieldTurf®  is a proud partner of USA Rugby, and has been instrumental in the planning for the new field.  “FieldTurf® is pleased to have been selected by the Atlanta Renegades RFC for their new rugby field,” commented FieldTurf® Vice President of Marketing Darren Gill, noting that “FieldTurf® provides the safety, traction and durability that rugby players demand.”
