Re-post from Talking Rugby Union – Historic First for Women’s U20 Nations Cup and Women’s Senior Nations Cup – Is This a Glimpse Into the Technological Rugby Future?

In my 2nd column for Talking Rugby Union I cover the events coming up this summer and discuss the fact that technology is bringing rugby to more people than ever before.

We are living in an age of technological wonders and rugby is flying right along with that technology. Live broadcasting of rugby games is not new but the frequency and quality of the matches available is what is so exciting! Several key events this summer will be utilizing technology to show us the newest and brightest stars of Women’s International Rugby. With the inclusion of 7s Rugby in the Olympics it will only help our respective nations to gather the BEST athletes they can if our sport grows in exposure and those Nations that are using technology to the fullest will reap those benefits.

In a historic first for women’s rugby the Women’s U20 Nations Cup will feature four International teams and will have LIVE broadcasts of the last 2 days of competition. The Your Scrumhalf Connection Media Team, will be on-site working in partnership with USA Rugby to bring you the live feed including real-time score updates along with Facebook and Twitter updates.

Senior Nations Cup
In August the Senior Women’s Nations Cup will take place in Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario. I don’t have confirmed dates that will be broadcast but it has been confirmed that they will be broadcasting some of the matches on the Rugby Canada Ustream channel.

2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup
Just this morning it was announced that the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup will be hosted by France. Very exciting and I hope they will realize that technology will need to be involved in this event as well. At the 2010 WRWC the hosts England were able to live broadcast over half the matches and those were also shown on SkyTV.
