USA Rugby South has been contacted by the NACRA Regional Development Officer, Scott Harland, to assist with a request from the Freeport (Bahamas) rugby community to help them look for a Development Officer. Please pass the word to interested parties.
Here is the text of the request:
They have had a few DOs from the UK over the years, most leaving after a year, for a few reasons – some are young and upwardly mobile and leave when another opportunity comes open. I think some others are not ready for the difference between the UK and Freeport (hot climate and slow culture). Perhaps, thought I, someone from Southern USA would be a good fit.
I think that someone from nearer to Bahamas might stay longer, and would understand the issue of trying to promote rugby in a community that follows American sports. Freeport RFU have built a lot of their rugby from the predominantly black local community and someone that can relate well to that population is important.
They can’t offer much-accommodations and bills covered, the use of a vehicle and $300/week.
If any of you are aware of a coach or development-minded rugby person that might be interested in further discussions about this position with Freeport, please ask them to send me an email and a rugby CV.
Actively yours,
Scott Harland
