TIAR Awards: Female Player of the Year – Katie Dowty

from TIAR:

Picking the female player of the year was much more difficult than I thought. There are some many great female players in the country that have excelled in the club game, 15’s game, 7’s game, college game, etc. So with all of that in mind, we have chosen Katie Dowty.

This year Dowty has come into her game. She made her Eagles debut this year in the Nations Cup and scored a couple of tries. She was the co-captain of the 7’s team and appeared in every tournament the women’s 7’s team was invited. In addition to coming on strong on the National Team scene, Dowty has been heavily involved with her club, Beantown. Beantown were one of the top teams in the Women’s Premier League this last year and a big part of that effort was from Dowty. She also helped the Boston Belles, her 7’s team, to 2nd place in the Club 7’s National Championship.

Dowty is only 26 and is one of the eight contracted sevens players by USA Rugby.
