Portland Rugby Club Searching for Men’s and Women’s Coaches

The Portland Rugby Club of Portland, OR is currently looking for interested rugby coaches to apply for both head and assistant coaching positions for the upcoming Fall season. Have them contact Andrea (boardsecretary@portlandrugby.org) before July 20th, 2012!

Portland Rugby Club – Men’s and Women’s Head and Assistant Coaches
The Portland Rugby Football Club (PRFC) was established in 1961 and is a member of USA Rugby and the Northwest Rugby Football Union. Our Men’s first side competes in Club Division II, the highest level available in the Portland area. We have recently won the Pacific Northwest Championship in 2009 and 2011. The second side competes in Pacific Northwest’s Men’s Club Division III. The Lady Pigs compete in the Pacific Northwest’s Women’s Club Division II, and frequently field second side matches. The club is looking for head and assistant coaches for both the men’s and women’s teams, due to retirements/job transfers and the influx of many more new players to the teams.

Responsibilities:
•Coaching of rugby skills to all abilities in a safe environment for the 2012 – 2013 15’s season.
•Be present at first team fixtures to organize the team, make substitutions and coach.
•Coordinating the coaching program, in conjunction with the captains and other coaches, to teach the range of skills needed to win in an organized manner.
•Motivating players to perform to a high standard both in training and match situations.
•Promoting a ‘squad’ mentality amongst players.
•Selection of teams for matches according to the clubs selection policy.
•Provide specialist coaching in conjunction with other coaches as necessary to develop individuals or the squad as a whole.
•To liaise with the board of directors on issues surrounding training, team selection and matches.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
•Current USA Rugby Coaching Certification (preferred but not required)
•Experience of leading, planning and delivering coaching sessions within a squad environment.
•Player centered and game related approach to coaching and player development.
•Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•Able to demonstrate an understanding of tactics and strategies.
•Committed to furthering coaching skills with guidance of board of directors.
