2012 Women’s Club Playoffs AND Championship Dates, Locations Announced

Boulder, Colo.—USA Rugby announced today that the Emirates Airline USA Rugby Women’s Division I Club Playoffs, hosted by the Atlanta Harlequins Women’s Rugby Club, will be held October 27-28 in Atlanta, Ga. at the Atlanta Old Whites’ new facility. The Emirates Airline USA Rugby Women’s Premier League, Division I and II Club Championships will take place at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla. on November 9-11. This event will be hosted by the Naples Hammerheads Rugby Football Club, with help from the Fort Miami Women’s Rugby Football Club.

JetBlue Park, which opened in March of 2012, is the spring training venue for the Boston Red Sox. It features six fields specifically designed to host soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, flag football and rugby, as well as other adjoining state-of-the-art facilities.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Atlanta Harlequins, Naples Hammerheads RFC and Fort Miami WRFC for two of our premier women’s domestic events,” USA Rugby Events Director Jennifer Gray said. “These organizations have extensive experience with hosting local and regional rugby tournaments, and USA Rugby is confident they will deliver on a national stage.”

The Emirates Airline USA Rugby Women’s Division I Club Playoffs will spotlight the nation’s top eight women’s DI club teams. All USA Rugby territories will be represented. The winners of the playoff will advance to compete in Fort Myers.

USA Rugby’s 2012 National Championship Series includes a total 22 national championship events for both men and women across five different leagues, including 11 club championships. Not only are these events an integral part of USA Rugby’s National Team high performance pathways, but they allow rugby players across the nation to compete for a national title.

USA Rugby is the national governing body for the sport of rugby in the United States. It is a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Rugby Board (IRB). The organization is responsible for the development of boys, girls, high school, collegiate and club rugby programs, as well as the nation’s rugby coaches, referees, administrators and all of its national teams that represent the U.S. in international competitions. As part of this development, USA Rugby hosts a number of courses, clinics, National Championship events and international matches throughout the year.
