Rose Bernheim, Norwich Women’s Rugby Player is featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd

NEW YORK – Junior fullback Rose Bernheim (Mountain Home AFB, Idaho) of the Norwich University women’s rugby team is currently featured in the latest edition of the nationally-acclaimed magazine Sports Illustrated and its popular “Faces In the Crowd” section.

She will appear in the Oct. 8 issue that starts hitting newsstands and arriving in subscriber’s mailboxes on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Bernheim broke the Norwich University women’s rugby all-time career try-scoring record with three tries in a 34-15 win over the United States Military Academy at West Point on Sept. 8.

Bernheim now has 65 tries in her illustrious career in the Maroon & Gold. She was integral part of helping lead the Cadets to two USA Rugby National Championships last year. Norwich won the USA Rugby 7’s Championship in December with a 34-5 win over Boston College.

The Cadets then followed up by winning the USA Rugby 15’s Division II national title with a 82-12 thrashing of Winona State at Stanford University last May.

Bernheim is a member of the USA U-20 National team and was named a USA Rugby Division II All-American last season while helping guide the Cadets to a 20-2 overall record. NU is 7-0 so far in the 2012-13 season and currently is riding a 12-match winning streak dating back to last season.  The Cadets have also won 28 of their last 29 matches.

Bernheim’s appearace in Faces in the Crowd marks the second Norwich Universty athlete in the last three years to earn the prestigious distinction. Sophie Leclerc ’11 of the women’s hockey team also appeared in Faces in April 2011 after leading the Cadets to their first national championship in program history.
