WPL Match Summary & Video – New York vs Glendale Raptors by Rosie Miesner

On a beautiful Fall day, NYRC hosted Glendale for the east coast side’s last home game of the season. The game was very physical from the kickoff, with both sides bringing intensity to rucks, set pieces, and attacking and defensive lines. Glendale ultimately prevailed with a second-half rally and a final score of 43-18.

The first half saw a flurry of action and a flurry of penalties, with New York taking advantage of a breakdown infringement and making the kick to start off at 3-0. Glendale countered shortly after, sending in two tries from backs and forwards alike, and also capatilizing on a penalty to make the score 17-3. New York fought its way back, disrupting set piece and supporting runners to bring the score to 24-18 at the half.

The second half saw continued offensive pressure by Glendale and forward ball as the Raptor’s capitalized on New York’s errors. Despite much back and forth in possession, Glendale was able to send multiple runners into the try zone to pull ahead in the second half for their 43-18 victory. This result moves Glendale to the top of the Red Conference and New York to the bottom, with one match to go before nationals. Glendale will meet Berkeley next weekend and New York will compete in San Diego versus the Surfers.
