WCAAs finish Top 40 Camp at University of Northern Colorado

from USA Rugby:

GREELEY, Colo. – The USA Rugby AIG Women’s Collegiate All-Americans concluded a three-day Top 40 Camp at the University of Northern Colorado Sunday with a scrimmage, which will help head coach Martha Daines choose her team to take on Twin City Amazons in August and to travel to France this fall.

The 40 players in camp were selected from the two regional camps held at California Maritime Academy and James Madison University in May and included recently-capped Women’s Eagles Megan Bonny and Erin Overcash.

Players from more than 85 different colleges attended the two regional camps, and the WCAA coaching staff has benefitted from the broadened reach of players they might not otherwise see. More than 30 different colleges were represented at the Top 40 Camp.

“I’ve been really impressed by the changes they’ve made here in such a small timespan,” Daines said. “This is a very short camp and they’ve been working on what we’ve been reinforcing at the two regional camps and then adding a few things. Their ability to play together has improved drastically; you could see it in watching the game.

“They’re working together really hard, we’ve asked them to change a couple of things they’re used to doing and they’ve responded really well.”
