We received a note about this earlier today as it’s gaining momentum on social media (OP: jozpoz on Instagram). USA Sevens, who owns Rugby Today is in hot water again in regards to women’s rugby. You may remember the #HERRUGBYCOUNTS campaign and now this…tisk tisk.
Rugby Today is committed to the women’s game, but it remains now, and always will be, of less interest to our readership than the men’s activities.
We’ve reached out to Rugby Today editor’s to see if they have any other formal comments.
UPDATE 6:49pm: Jeff McDowell, Executive Vice President/CMO of United Sports (who owns USA Sevens) got back to us:
We as an organization in no way feel the women’s game is less important than the men’s. The comment does not represent our true sentiments as an organization and we intend take the appropriate internal action.
We were given the name of the Editor but don’t feel it’s appropriate to share that at this time. We don’t want the focus to shift to them but rather the larger message is that we have to keep fighting for equal representation for women’s rugby. Don’t support corporations, associations, organizations, brands, tournaments, individuals or sites that don’t support women’s rugby. Period.
