Announcing 3rd Annual Cal Women’s Rugby Camp for Girls

The Cal Women’s Rugby Team is holding a rugby camp this summer for girls, aged 14 – 19, from June 21 – June 24. Help us spread the word and extend the tradition of rugby at Cal to high school aged girls!

We are happy to announce that Kathy Flores,  USA Rugby Women’s National Team Coach,  will be a guest coach at camp this year.  Kathy joined us for the first annual Cal Women’s Rugby Camp for Girl’s in 2008, and the player response was very enthusiastic.

The Cal Women’s Rugby team camp emphasizes safety and fun, while coaching good rugby skills, basic tactics, and teamwork. Our coaches bring with them the latest rugby skills, teaching methods, and tactics from the collegiate, all-star, and international women’s rugby game.

Campers will participate in a variety of rugby games and activities that promote teamwork and communication while teaching rugby fundamentals. Players of all experience levels are welcome.

We will also have sessions on college preparation, nutrition, fitness training, and a campus tour.

Coaches scheduled to lead camp sessions include:

Laura Cabrera, Cal Women’s Rugby Backs Coach, former USA Rugby Women’s National Team player on both the 15s and 7s squads

Deb Wadford, Cal Women’s Rugby Forwards Coach, played with National Champion Berkeley All Blues Women’s club

Katie Chou, Cal Women’s Rugby Fitness Coach, former USA Rugby Women’s U23 National Team player, former co-captain Cal Women’s Rugby Team

Ellen Owens, Cal Women’s Rugby Head Coach, former USA Rugby Women’s U23 National Team Program director, former Pacific Coast U23 Grizzly Women’s Team coach
