Presenting Mrs. YSC and Mrs. YSC The Girl

Photos provided by Julie Williams Photography.

Well, we did it! The Girl and I got hitched in Austin, TX on Nov 13, 2010. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and we were surrounded by so many family members, friends and loved ones. We wanted to send out a special thank you to everyone who thought of us on that day and sent Tweets, Facebook, emails and more. Thank you!!

As promised we are finally revealing who The Girl is today! If you are not familiar with The Girl, go here to read her bio. So who is The Girl? Well, her name is Traci and we met about 10 years ago when she played for Texas A&M and I played for the University of Oklahoma. We were both captains of our teams and we interacted quite a bit but by no means were we friends. The rivalry between our two teams was pretty strong and we took it personally as well.  Over the years our teams played each other often and we even played on West U23s together. In 2006 Traci moved to Austin for an Accounting job and I moved to Austin later in the summer for better job opportunities as well.

Moving to Austin meant that we were both playing with the Austin Valkyries. Traci had already played with the team for one semester, so I was the new dog on the team. At this point we were forced to play together and become teammates. After about 6 months of playing together sparks started to fly and we began to date. Most didn’t think it would last, but 4 years later we are happier than ever and bonded for life.

Traci’s support of this blog is incredible as I spend many many many many hours pouring over articles, other blogs, resources, calling sources, getting scores and more. Her support means so much and her insight has taken this blog from a simple column to a website with details on almost every rugby event in the country. We are looking forward to 2011 as it means bigger and better things for YSC!

Sidenote: A few of you have asked why we scheduled our wedding during the WPL, D1 and D2 Championships…well we didn’t mean to! When we picked the date in Dec 2009 it was an open weekend, but then USA Rugby decided to move everything back a week. So we played all year with the Austin Valkyries and as the Round of 12 and other events got closer we started building a backup plan. The Girl often asked what we would do if we made it to Final Four…and I just kept saying lets think about it when it happens. She even asked me if it came down to making a conversion…would I miss on purpose? OF COURSE NOT, I am way to competitive for that! Unfortunately the Valkyries didn’t make it that far and we didn’t have to have use our backup plan. We were incredibly sad that our team didn’t qualify, but happy that our event was going to happen without a hitch.
