Rugby Texas Girl’s High School State Championship Match Report

The Rugby Texas Girl’s High School State Championship game was held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Love Star College pitch in the Woodlands. Due to issues with the number of players throughout the season, the state championship was open for all teams to participate, resulting in a championship game between St. Pius and a mixed team from the Woodlands, Panther City, and Katy. Overall, the game was a well fought match, even though the battle was not reflected in the final score of St. Pius 0 – Woodlands motley 33. Both teams played cohesively and were able to turn over the ball frequently. As stated in the match report, the difference in the score was due to the leadership of Woodlands captain Meya Bizer, who scored a majority of the points through conversion kicks and penalty kicks for points. Meya has previously been a part of the USA Rugby U17 National program and was invited to participate in the U20 National Camp this summer. Each player that attended the Championship game received a medal for their participation and hard work. The Girl’s High School State Championship marks the end of the season for the 15s program. Thank you again to all of the players, coaches, and volunteers for the great season!

Thanks
