Guest Blog: Fran Cotton – What Are England’s Chances of Winning the World Cup?

With the Rugby World Cup now in full swing, what are England’s chances of winning the World Cup? England has had a decent start to the World cup but can they actually win the 2011 title?

Former England International Fran Cotton’s recent prediction is that England have a real battle on their hands.

“They have to play better than they did against Wales. If England made the semi-finals it would probably reach their limits at this moment in time. There are many issues at the moment, particularly with midfield and back row – they don’t have enough talent available and generally the way the team are playing. If they do get to the semi-finals it will be a great success.”

Fran continues: “For England the exciting thing is we have some great young players and if we can develop we will have a great chance in 2015. The World Cup is in England and if we can develop the team, we have a seriously good chance of winning. One recent game that stands out is Ireland at the end of last season when England missed out on the Grand Slam – some young inexperienced players in the team didn’t turn up and I think they were surprised by the experienced Irish players’ ferocity. Only international experience can overcome this.”

Winning all their games to date, it’s so far so good for the England squad. Let’s just see if they can hold it together.

After huge success as an international rugby player through the 70s, Fran Cotton founded Cotton Traders in 1987 with fellow rugby legend Steve Smith which specialises in casual clothing and rugby shirts. For more information visit https://www.cottontraders.com/.
