Good morning it is great to be able to interview Jared and Huia Tuoro the driving force behind a new company Womens Rugby Recruitment the first 100% dedicated women’s rugby recruitment site on the internet. We are going to conduct the interview in a question and answer format if you would like additional information or more details I suggest you contact Jared or Huia directly.

Lee: Before we get started perhaps you and Huia can provide us with a brief profile on your rugby background

Jared: Sure, I’ve been involved in rugby at an amateur and professional level as a player with the Auckland province in NZ and have coached school, club and international women’s rugby teams over the last 10 years. I began working in rugby as a rugby development officer, 4 years at Counties Manukau Rugby Union – NZ , 3 Years in Scotland and now a Coach Development Manager in NZ.

Huia: Hi Lee, well I began playing rugby fairly late at the age of 20 when I was asked by some friends to come along for a game. I’d always been into a lot of sports, netball, touch and athletics so it was great to get into a contact sport! The longer I’ve played the more confidence I’ve got, I also managed to play for the Auckland Storm women’s representative team in 2008 and during our time in Scotland was able to play at the Dubai 7s in 2009 & 2010. Living back in New Zealand now is great with a lot of opportunities to play provincial and international rugby.

Lee: What is Women’s Rugby Recruitment and how did it get started?

Jared: Women’s Rugby Recruitment specialises in the recruitment of female players and coaches of women’s teams for clubs around the world. It began in 2011 when Huia and I were looking to move from Scotland, I was in contact with Rah Rah Rugby about a possible placement for me as a player/ coach in Canada.

We were able to get a contract for Huia playing and coaching for the women’s team of the same club and we thought this would be great for other female players to experience as well.

We know female players have been travelling to other countries and playing rugby informally and through contacts of friends etc. Our service intends to provide this opportunity to as many players and coaches as possible so that they can enjoy the experience of playing and coaching overseas.

Lee: What do you see has the major challenges for ladies interested playing rugby overseas and how can they best prepare for the recruitment process

Jared and Huia:

The major challenge would be having financial funds to travel to another country. The majority of countries visa requirements mean each person needs to show proof of funds to support themselves once in the country.

Plan ahead and when you’ve decided that travelling is what you want to do, start to put some money aside so that after 6 months or so there is a large sum to satisfy immigration.

Lee; any additional closing remarks

Jared and Huia:

Its an exciting time for Women’s rugby right now, if you goal is to develop your own skills, share your skills with others or just to experience another country and meet new friends then Women’s Rugby Recruitment can help.

One of the best ways to enjoy your new rugby experience is a with a friend, so a grab a team mate and set the new goal of travelling and playing rugby together.
