USA Rugby Sevens Coach Ric Suggitt holds crossover camp for prospective athletes

from USA Rugby:

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Women’s Eagles Sevens Head Coach Ric Suggitt and USA Rugby Development Program coaches Julie McCoy, Ellie Karvoski, Laura Cabrera and Dana Creager have reached out to college coaches of various Division I and Division II sports in an attempt to draw crossover athletes to rugby. A crossover camp is being held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., until May 23.

“The first day of camp was excellent and full of enthusiasm and athletic ability,” Suggitt said. “For the first attempt at this it is a great start for USA Rugby in opening the door to potential prospects who would like to represent their country at the Olympics.”

The purpose of the crossover camp is to teach the potential crossover athletes the game of sevens rugby to see if they can earn a place in the Olympic pathway. After this camp, the coaches would like to identify more athletes for a camp in Little Rock, Ark., in July and put together a team to compete at the NASC at the Olympic Training Center in August.
