Southern California Youth Rugby Inc. is a Non-Profit (501 c 3) youth rugby organization representing male and female players from ages 8-18, with a four person elected Executive Committee and a Council of 20-24 elected or volunteer members. Currently all positions except administrative assistant are held by unpaid volunteers.

We are moving into a new phase of growth with 4000+ youth players. We are seeking a forward thinking, self-starting social entrepreneur, with drive and passion for youth sports and youth development to guide and grow Southern California Youth Rugby and its programs. We require a full time Executive Director to be the face of SCYR, to represent and manage the interests of SCYR.

Job Description 
Position: Executive Director
Proposed start date: September 2013
Compensation: Between $40,000 -$50,000 depending on experience. Performance based with potential future increases based on the ability to raise capital through various sources such as but not limited to: corporate contributions, donations and fundraising.

Position Summary: 
Responsible for providing strategic leadership for Southern California Youth Rugby Inc. (SCYR), by working at the direction and discretion of the Executive Committee to establish and implement goals, strategies, plans and policies. To interface (liaise) with local and State organizations, schools, other geographic Rugby Territories and groups and USA Rugby. The selected candidate would be expected to reside in the Southern California area (San Diego, Orange or Los Angeles county). There is no compensation for relocation expenses. Candidate must be available to begin the job September 2013. Furtherance of employment contract will be based on regular job performance reviews conducted by members of the Executive Committee.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business preferred or commensurate experience in business or non-profit management. Advanced degree is a plus.
Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in management, business development and managing highly committed people.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
• Establishes credibility throughout SCYR and with the Executive Committee as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
• Provides leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values of the SCYR are put into practice.
• Evaluates and updates policies and procedures and by-laws to maintain 501 c3 compliance. Completes all nonprofit filings.
• Responsible for driving SCYR to achieve Growth, profitability, cash flow, and organization goals and objectives.
• Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes through outreach for school programs, touch rugby and works with organizations with similar goals.
• Collaborates with the Executive Committee to develop and implement plans accommodate the growth objectives of SCYR. Interfaces or coordinates with California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) to advance the sport of Rugby in High Schools through presentations and relationship building with key people.
• Oversees discipline, registration and competitions issues at all levels.
• Oversee the future planned startup and structure of SCYR affiliated Referee Society.
• Develops materials for new startup clubs, clinics for referee and coaches training and development.
• Required to raise additional capital at appropriate valuations to enable SCYR to meet financial objectives.
• Represents SCYR with clients, investors, vendors, business partners and USA Rugby to promote rugby and secure best possible pricing for services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 
Possible future supervision of support employees, such as Interns, Administrative help. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SCYR’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, with input from SCYR Executive Committee.
