Glendale Raptors Women Seek Head Coach

Glendale RugbyThe Women’s Glendale Raptors WPL team is seeking applications for a full-time head coach for the fall season. The coach will work with the Director of Rugby to plan, organize and develop a successful rugby team representative of the City of Glendale. A level 200 or higher coaching certification is required, and a strong candidate will have experience coaching women at a high level. Compensation will be provided and is negotiable.

Job Description: Glendale Raptors Rugby Club Women’s Head Coach

Title:  Head Coach

Role:  To plan, control and implement the activities set down by the City of Glendale by being aware of your responsibilities, obligations, to whom you are accountable as well as your entitlements with due regard to Club policies and procedure.

Responsible to:  

  • Director of Rugby

Functional Relationships:

  • Director of Rugby – has sole charge of coach and team.
  • Coaching Staff – works with you with the team
  • The Players – Coach has full control of players at training, game venues and selection decisions.
  • Supporters, parents and sponsors
  • Media/promotional requirements

Primary Objectives:

  • To develop a successful rugby team.
  • By using coaching skills, develop and enhance those players under your control.
  • To develop your own coaching skills by meeting all USA Rugby and Rocky Mountain Rugby Union criteria for women’s rugby.
  • To instill pride in the Club by high team performance.

  • Team results – WPL
  • Individual player improvement
  • Accountability

Pre-Season:

  • Meet with Director of Rugby to understand your role.
  • Discuss with the Director of Rugby the team selection process.
  • Be aware of all games where your potential players are involved i.e. clubs and Rocky Mountain Rugby Union rep matches, invitation matches, tournaments etc.
  • Be aware of all rule changes, training techniques. Arrange to attend coaching seminars etc. arranged by USA Rugby and Rocky Mountain Rugby Union.
  • Communicate at all times with Director of Rugby on requirements from Club.
  • With Director of Rugby, arrange for all pre-competition activities, trial dates, trainings etc. and what assistance is needed – i.e. Physios, specialized training ○
  • Along with the Director of Rugby, set team standard with respect to dress, behavior, expectations, sponsor obligations.

During Season:

  •  Plan each training session in advance and liaise with the Director of Rugby your requirements.
  • Ensure specialized help is available wherever you require it, i.e. front row coaching.
  • On match day, organize proper warm up/down programs.
  • Ensure all players meet all requirements for your competition.
  • Make sure all injuries are properly treated.
  • With the Director of Rugby, make sure all judicial matters and responsibilities of the player concerned are organized.
  • Liaise with USA Rugby and Rocky Mountain Rugby Union selectors for inclusion of top players in their selection.

End of Season:

  • Prepare a full team report
  • Include comments on individual players
  • Identify elite or promising players and identify their needs.
  • Make sure all players eligible for various USA Rugby and Rocky Mountain Rugby Union development squads have been nominated. ●
  • Decide on your availability for future coaching roles and team preference for next season.

Requirement/Skills:

  • Level 200 or higher. Ideally some coaching experience with women at a higher level of competition.
