USA Women’s Rugby UK Tour – June 28 – July 6, 2014

The USA Women’s Rugby Team has already landed in Wales and has been training for two days. Their first match of the Pre World Cup Tour is against Wales and then they will face England twice. Only once in the past 20 years have Wales and the Women’s Eagles faced each other. That lone meeting took place nearly 13 years ago, with USA claiming the 2001 match, 20-17. The match is the closest score-line in the all-time series and marks the only time the teams have squared off in Wales – the two other contests were held in Scotland and Toronto, respectively. Further, the 2001 meeting is the last time a Senior US national team played on Welsh soil.

The last time the Women’s Eagles competed in the UK was during the 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup. A 3-2 record was good enough for fifth place in the elite tournament. USA fell to England and Ireland during pool play at the year’s World Cup after beating Kazakhstan. The Women’s Eagles then returned the favor by beating Ireland in knockout play, before defeating Canada. England has been a familiar foe for Wales and the Women’s Eagles, but each have only captured one victory against the Roses. The Welsh have faced England 31 times while the Women’s Eagles have challenged the Roses 13 times.
