Six Nations 2010; Looking Back

Thom Evans - Dream BingoWhen looking back at previous Six Nations games, it always comes back to that key accident that happened with Thom Evans.

February 13th 2010 started like no other. The game between Scotland and Wales was well underway when Thom, a 24 year old Glasgow Warriors player had a nasty collision with Lee Byrne. He was quickly taken to Cardiff’s University Hospital to receive immediate medical care. Later on it was said that he underwent a neck operation and had a further operation that week to stabilise his spine.

Those views were echoed by former England coach Sir Clive Woodward, who said: “My heart goes out to young Thom Evans.”

That following summer in July 2010, Evans was forced to retire after speaking out about his injuries. It was revealed that his cervical vertebrae had been knocked out so badly that he was just a millimetre from paralysis or death. It was an awful incident and one to remember within the sporting history.

“I can still do pretty much anything. I just can’t play a physical game such as rugby,” he said.

“When you’re told you can’t play the sport you love dearly, it comes as quite a shock.

“I’ve been fortunate to have played six seasons at the top against some of the best players in the world. I’ll have those memories for the rest of my life. “

More recently, since the shocking accident, Thom has been competing in both indoor and outdoor athletic competitions. This is also where his modelling career took off and got himself in a two year on/off relationship with British model and actress Kelly Brook.

In 2014, Evans took part in Strictly Come Dancing. He danced with Iveta Lukosiute but unfortunately were booted off when they lost dancing against Simone Webbe.

Earlier this year, Thom Evans was featured on our televisions, within adverts for Dream Bingo. Here is he seen jumping out of a dream machine van delivering one woman’s dreams which she entered on there website.
