WPL Week 1 Summary, Results & Standings

The first week of the Women’s Premier League is in the books! In the Blue Conference the DC Furies and Twin City Amazons put up large margins against Keystone and Beantown. The Furies made a particularly strong statement as they dismantled Keystone 82-12. Three tries from Eagle Lynelle Kuglar helped put the Amazons on top of Beantown with a final score of 38-14.

In the Red Conference it was a closer battle with the Berkeley All Blues getting the better of the San Diego Surfers at the last moment. Glendale also eaked out a win against New York to round out their WPL debut. The Berkeley vs Surfers rematch was reported as “a back and forth war”. The Surfers forwards have really upped their game and are as good as their backs when it comes to ball handling. The Surfers looked to move the ball wide often and quickly, but Berkeley was able to contain them the majority of the time. Berkeley scored a try with moments left in the match to claim the W. New York stormed the Rugby City (Glendale) but their defense and counterrucking proved to be the game changer as they held NY off for a 29-22 victory.
