WPL WEEK 2 SUMMARY, RESULTS & STANDINGS

In week 2 of the Women’s Premier League, Glendale and the Twin City Amazons continued their winning streaks, each standing on top of their respective conferences. It should be noted that some teams were missing key players as they were attending a USA 7s Camp this weekend.

Blue Conference
The Blue Conference it was another week of big blowouts with the Twin City Amazons pummeling Keystone 75-12. At the half it was all Amazon 39-0, but Keystone strung two tries back to back and seemed to be on the path of a comeback. Unfortunately the will was there, but the Amazons swiftly crushed any hope of a comeback and piled on the points.

In the Beantown vs DC Furies match, Beantown dominated the match from the start and the Furies were just along for the ride. The Furies pack wasoutstanding, but Beantown was extremely aggresive on defense and stifled any attack that they met. Beantown defeated the Furies 57-0.

Red Conference
The Red Conference remains hotly contested and the standings reflect that. Glendale is currently on top, but has New York and Berkeley close on their heels. Once again, Glendale barely edged out another win this week, this time against the San Diego Surfers. Glendale’s Hannah Stolba started the match off with two penalty kicks within the first fifteen minutes. From there the action turned to the Surfers with a try and a penalty kick from Kristin Hartos. At the half it was a very close 13-11 in the Surfers favor. Glendale came back hard at the second half and scored two tries to put them up 21-13 with about twenty minutes left. Two late tries from the Surfers were not enough to change the lead and Glendale takes the win.

Berkeley struck first in the match against New York, scoring an unconverted try off a kick counterattack. Moments later, New York flyhalf Mary McCarthy slotted a penalty kick after a breakdown infringement by Berkeley. From then on it was all New York as they brought the heat with their backs. The ball moved out wide very often and Berkeley struggled to contain the outside attack. New York claims their first win this week over Berkeley 25-5.
